Plain-English guides

Know the record.
Keep the context.

These short guides explain how to read a public booking listing without turning an allegation into a conclusion.

01

Booking basics

What a booking record does—and does not—tell you

A booking is a point-in-time public record. It does not decide guilt, the outcome of a case, or a person’s current custody status.

Read this guide

A detention-center listing usually records that an agency processed a person on a particular date. It may include a photo, listed charges, bond information, and basic profile details.

That information is not a court judgment. Charges can be changed, dismissed, or resolved in different ways, and a person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Use the official court or agency source for a current case status.

02

Bond explained

How to read listed bond information

Bond is a release condition shown by the source at the time of the listing. It is not a fine or a prediction of the case outcome.

A bond amount can change, and some records may show no bond or a condition instead of a dollar amount. The amount shown on a booking page should be treated as a snapshot, not a guarantee that the same amount is current.

Questions about payment, release conditions, hearings, or a case should go to the detention center, clerk of court, or an attorney. This site does not set or interpret an individual’s legal conditions.

03

Charge language

Why listed charge descriptions can change

The wording on a public booking listing may be corrected or updated as agencies update their records.

Read this guide

A charge description is the agency’s label in the public listing. It may be abbreviated, repeated for multiple counts, or different from the wording used in a later court filing.

When a record changes, we update the published page when practical and show when the source was last checked. We do not infer facts that are not in the public record.

Start with the source

For the most current information, check the York County Detention Center public listing and any applicable court source.
